After the rain
Rain changes the distance between things. Asphalt becomes a second sky, traffic signals reach farther, and a person crossing an empty street suddenly has two shadows instead of one.
I used to hurry out as soon as the rain started. Now I wait for it to stop. That brief quiet afterward is better: fewer umbrellas, softer traffic, and reflections that have not yet been broken by tires. The photograph often arrives while everyone else is deciding whether it is safe to leave the doorway.
The useful habit is simple. Pick one corner and stay there long enough to see how the light repeats. Then wait for a human gesture to interrupt it.
